webcam adapter tube length?

Recommended Posts

Good evening SGL members

Although i have already adapted my webcam, (to somewhat a fair attempt) to fit the focusing tube, is there a certain length the cam tube has to be?

I made mine by removing the lens from the cam, and taping the housing with imaging chip to an unused eyepiece tube.

As you can see..... i only have about 15mm of tube length! to fit into focuser. Is this too short?....Also would i benefit by buying a webcam adapter?

I would appreciate any feedback on this.

Thank you.

Gary

I think it all depends on the focus that you can get with the focuser on your telescope. I seem to recall that lots of people have trouble in getting the CCD chip as deep as possible into the focus tube where it's needed, but as Jambouk says, there's only one way to find out and that's to try it.
