Modding a Solarmax II 60

Recommended Posts

I was reading another post about modding out a PST to attach to a larger aperture scope, See here. And it got me thinking...has anyone replaced the focuser on a Coronado Solarmax 60? I find the focuser very difficult to handle, especially when imaging. Has anyone done this? Is it at all possible?

Good question!

Don't know....

(I went the other way and removed the front etalon of my original Solarmax 60 and remounted it on the ED80. Longer focal length, and a Crayford focuser....)

Unfortunately the latest SM60ii version just seems to have a internal etalon (similar to the PST)

May be possible to remove the Coronado helical focuser and replace with a better Borg version?

Hope this is the right place to ask about the Coronado PST
i recently acquired this scope and I can’t get any surface details to show on the sun, I have played with the tuning ring but apart from being able to see some flares on the rim of the sun, no surface details came through. I was using my own 8mm and 11mm Explore
what I saw was just a red blob, pretty much like white light viewing with a red filter. Turning the tuning ring only changed the intensity of the light coming through
is this what is expected of the PST? Or do you think I am doing something wrong or my PST may well be faulty?

For Sale my Coronado, Pre Meade, SM40, TMax 40, BF5 plus adaptes for TV101 & Borg 77 for £ 650.oo

Retiring so no longer need a travel set of Coronado SM40 Etalon, the matching TMax 40 Tilt Tuner and Blocking Filter BF5, adapters and step down rings allowing use with TV101 and Borg 77 plus Coronado case. The internal foam is long gone, I made my own cut outs.

The SM40 Etalon and Tmax Tuner were purchased in 2002 or 2003 shortly after they became available, the BF5 more recently.

They've seen a lot of use but no abuse, been well cared for and give good views of all things H-Alpha.

Have used this on my TV101, Borg 77 and Miniborg 50, binoviewing on the MB50 is fun.

Can post 1st Class, tracked and signed week begining Monday 4th April. Postage within UK & Europe is included in the cost.   The OTA's, BV's, eyepieces and mounts are not for sale, nor is Blinky the dog.

      Not interested in selling parts.

      Best Regards

      Hi all
Really really struggled to get this working in photoshop. I think I've screwed up the exposure on the prom capture so the disc ended up being a fair size larger than the surface detail which was always going to give me a bit of a halo around the image. Hope its not too bad but comments and advice are always welcome
Taken with the Coronado Solarmax SS60 and PGR Grasshopper today, 700 frames proms, 1000 surface. Not much happening today when I took this which is a shame because I've just seen some cracking pictures of looping proms from yesterday!
      Clear skies all
