Hi! Which of these two will be better for planetary when coupled to a Powermate :

TeleVue Plossl 11mm or Explore Scientific 82 Degree 11mm Nitrogen Purged Waterproof

Difficult to say. In a Dob the wider field of the ES is certainly handy: less pushing.

As michael said it depends on the scope really. Optically I'd expect they are very close. I'd always go for the increased AFOV though assuming centre optics are equal. Just gives more versatility in the end.

I use an Equinox 120mm APO. Does that make a difference?

On a driven mount?

The reason that's a question is the 82' ES will give a wider apparent field of view which means as the target rotates through the view of an undriven scope you dont need to move the scope to keep it in view. Premium eyepieces perform well edge to edge.

I'd go for the ES everytime unless you like the idea of having TeleVue products.

Yes it's a driven mount. They are both the same price, so I can't decide.

The ES11 is a very versatile EP in an F/7.5 scope, with or without powermate. The Plossl is excellent, but the ES 11mm will show a nice 1 degree FOV at 81x. A very useful setting for e.g. planetaries and brighter galaxies.

The 11mm ES is an excellent eyepiece too, often regarded as the jewel of the range!

the TV plossl 11mm is a best in class when compared a few years ago to over a dozen eyepieces of the same FL in an issue of Sky and Telescope. I would like to get this eyepiece for the same reason. Barlowing for planets.
