I don't think so. It is a bright patch and would still appear that way against the light pollution, same way as a star would still be visible as brighter than the background.

Anyway you can get somewhere a bit darker?

Right I see what you mean as I've found a picture on the net of it. The dark patch I found must have been something else. I think I will have to try and find a dark site reasonably local to me.

i cant see andromeda from my back yard, too much LP.... so the only messiers I can really see are the brighter clusters and stuff. But thats why god invented the car,so we can drive to dark sites with all our gear.
