Hi - I've been looking at posts here since I started astronomy earlier this year. I thought it was about times I signed up! My wife bought me a Skywatcher Explorer 130P for my birthday, as I'd been looking at the sky through my Opticron spotting scope for some time, and she picked up on my growing interest. I live in a light polluted part of Kent, but with easy access to some darker sky areas - and my back garden is plagued by 2 street lamps, a neighbour's seeming permanently lit conservatory and and number of insecurity lights in nearby gardens. I'm slowly learning my way around the sky, and boring my friends silly with what I've seen. I'm at the stage where I'm still awestruck by seeing Saturn's rings and the moons of Jupiter, but judging by the number of images of these two on the internet, that may not just be a phase. I never realised cloud could be so frustrating, but having missed the Quadrantids completely, and 2012 DA14, I'm beginning to take more notice of the weather forecast. I'll shut up now, or I'll ramble on forever!

Hi and welcome from another local!

I would say ramble away. This is most definitely the forum to do it.

I'm afraid the weather is the Astronomer's nemesis but last night was clear for a period. There will be plenty of other things to see and one off events that will hopefully not be scuppered by nimbostratus and friends. Comet PANSTARRS should be visible in less than two weeks time as it begins to head North and fade.

Happy hunting!

Thank you all for the welcome. To mark the occasion of my becoming a member, the clouds very kindly gave me a small viewing window this evening - which made a change!
