Alpy spectroscope?

Looks an interesting modular lo/mid-res 'straight-through' linear design with a grism [grating+prism] to give zero deviation on mid[?] spectrum. Slitless mode like Staranalyser or slit with various slit widths in tiny turntable! Some excellent spectra of emission galaxies, complete with 'smile', in 20m exp - webpage @ http://www.shelyak.com/rubrique.php?id_rubrique=17

Kate,

With the short focal length imaging lens, the 11micron pixel size in the MX916 may reduce the resolution, but it should work OK. You'd need some spacers and a T thread to M42 adaptor.

11um pixels should be ok. The spec of R ~600 is for a 23 um slit which would be perfectly sampled with 11um pixels. You would need to check the width of the CCD though to check you get a sensible wavelength range (ALPY 600 with the guider module is almost identical in price to the Elliot instruments spectrograph but has more dispersion and hence resolution so it needs a bigger CCD (at least 8mm wide to get the full visible range). There is a table on the Shelyak website.

The camera connection to the ALPY 600 is a T (M42x 0.75) thread (Do Starlight Xpress still use the old Pentax 42x1mm thread on this camera?) and back focus is an adjustable 10.5-21mm

Cheers

Robin

If the CCD is as I suspect the ICX083 then the width is 8.7mm which would give the full visible range from 3650 - 7300 A

Hi Robin,

The MX916 does have a Pentax thread.
