Guide camera resolution?

I'm thinking of setting up a guiding system on my EQ5, in true DIY fashion of course.

How much resolution is necessary for a guide camera? There are inexpensive webcams available from VGA to full HD res, how much is enough? Is more always better? (question hat-trick)

What else should I take into account besides resolution?

I'm not sure about resolution I'm working pretty small at the moment it's more about the ability to adjust the exposure time for guiding as long as it has this capability I don't think resolution is a problem. Correct me I I'm wrong though people! :)

The sensitivity is more important than pixel size, since programs like PHD guide on sub pixel level. The trick is to see stars in the first place. I used a few versions of MS lifecams with fairly good result on an ED80.
