Just checking the Comet Chasing Site and found this:

17P/Holmes: An all-night comet visible to the naked eye

This comet is in super outburst, having brightened by many magnitudes on the night of October 24. It is currently (as of 17:00 UT October 24) in Perseus at magnitude 2.8 (and brightening!).

Thought I'd let you guys know tonight looks pretty good tonight for seeing the comet.

Might be some broken cloud about but the weather front is moving SE pretty quick.

SE england though will be a hit and miss affair though.

Managed to see it last night before the clouds moved in. Used 8x30 binos to confirm I had correct target then used the 5ins Refactor at 40x and 120x. Bigger than Jupiter and the central coma has a large disc round it with clear edges and a star was visible through the disc ( it moved slightly during time of viewing). I thought the central coma had a slight 'tail' off to it's left, but not certain. Will try photo asap.

Old Codger.
