Hi Tasope,

Welcome to SGL - scopes fine and will give some good views, though don't rush to spend - post some more info on budget and what you're interested in, also if you need to be mobile or will be viewing from the back garden. Lots to think about - I dithered for 4-5 weeks betweeen dobs, newts and refractors before finally choosing and it can seem a bit daunting, though is a great learning curve. You'll get lots of really good straight advice here.

Welcome aboard. ;) The 130 is a sound optical instrument and a bit of a 'jack of all trades' as it has a decent focal length for lunar/planetary, but is big enough to allow viewing of some of the brighter deep space nebulae. I have imaged through mine (inbetween endless cloudy nights this year) and for a budget, starter scope it is pretty good.

Is there a Local Astronomy Club Near to Selby i have looked in the local library but found nothing i know there is one in York, but it is a bit of a pain to get to from here

Hi Tasape,

Welcome to the forum. Both are made by the same manufacturer, but I believe, for this price bracket, the build quality on the Skywatcher scopes is slightly better (and the red dot finder is definitely better). Mount aside, the Astromaster 130EQ is pretty much the same as the Skywatcher Explorer 130P. The difference between the 130P/130EQ and the 130M is a shorter local length and parabolic primary mirror, which makes it a little more effective at gathering light and easier to fit in the cupboard :)

I'd recommend the Skywatcher Explorer 130P, it's a nice all rounder and I've even done some webcam imaging with mine. I'd also recommend buying from a specialist retailer, even if costs a few quid more. FLO are excellent http://www.firstlightoptics.com/ and I think Green Witch http://www.green-witch.com/ have a shop near you, if you want to go take a look.

Thanks for all the Help ive just made my purchase

the Skywatcher Explorer 130p and after doing some research a skywatcher_2x_deluxe_barlow Purchased from FLo as they support the site

Getting Excited Now Cannot wait to start exploring the Sky
