Got this last night , 10th Jan 2013. Was 10:30 - it had just stopped p**ing it down and it was windy as hell! That combined with being in the center of a town didn't fill me with much hope of getting anything but I was actually pleasantly surprised for a first attempt

Jupiter 10 01 2013 02 PS 02

Taken through Tasco 302012 scope. 9mm ultra wide EP, Revelation 2.5 x barlow.

Afocal shot using Nikon coolpix S2000

That is a really impressive image for a 114mm scope and being handheld it is even better, well done and lets see some more!

Thanks for that - it was actually mounted and its a stacked image rather than a single shot. Full details are on the image page. When (if) we finally get some clear skies, there will be more

Very nice image of Jupiter indeed. You should caption it as "The revenge of Tasco" :D as most amateurs would rarely recommend that brand.

Some time ago I used your very same technique but with a Skywatcher 114P and had no luck as it was extremely windy and the gear was all shaky... my latest quick attempt was with my bigger Skywatcher 200P + Nikon dSLR (prime focus) and all I got was a very dim and fuzzy image (single shot) as I was unable to polar align the mount for tracking, and Jupiter would move away from the FOV too fast, before I would be able to adjust the settings of a webcam for proper planetary AP :)

Again very well done! Keep us posted.

Agreed, I should :-) though to my limited experience, it actually dosnt seem too bad a scope (once I'd got some decent eyepieces and collimated it properly). Even better when you consider I only paid £20 for it
