Celestron 15x70 with Redsnapper RS283 and Triton Ballhead grip

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, found this great thread from 2010 http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/79860-celestron-skymaster-15x70-tripod/page__st__20

I just got a pair of the Celestron 15x70's and want a solid setup for viewing. Tripod is key as I do the hunting and the gf does the looking once I've found what we want to look at - so a monopod is out of the running.

I'm looking at this tripod http://www.redsnapperuk.com/camera-accessories/RS-283___RSH-61_Ball_Head.html#nogo

I really like the look/use of the Triton Ballhead Grip http://www.telescope-service.com/tripods/start/tripodsstart.html#Joystick

but when I follow the link to their online store looks like they don't carry it anymore. Google wasn't much help either.

Any help would be great

Hmm, the Redsnapper RS283 without any head is 55GBP....and 55GBP shipping to Canada yeeeesh. Anyone know of any similar tripods that are of similar quality? I've looked at the Horizon 8115 but again, mainly only available in the UK.

There is a Celestron EQ mount, the basic one, for sale locally. Anyone ever use bino's on an EQ mount?
I haven't, mainly because I have used telescopes on equatorials and that is sufficient to warn me of the required contortionism (that could possibly be the last straw for my rapidly deteriorating physical body!)

On the batphone, so expect typos...

The Redsnapper tripod you mentioned is excellent and well abled to carry 15X70 bins. I dont have one but have been looking at it for a long time. The pistol grip ballhead is class (i dont have one of those either, but like them).

In my mind, its CRAZY to pay the same for shipping as the product costs, about 1/3 is fine.

I have a set of 20x90 bins and i bought a Horizon 8115 tripod to mount them on. It works great but it is limited in how far up it allows me to look overhead.

I have to say that i have never considered using bins on an EQ mount. I dislike using a scope on an EQ mount and i cant see it being any different for bins. It's a thought though.
