Accessories for a DSLR

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I've got a bit of money together, (about £200), and was wondering about any accessories I should buy for my Canon 450D to improve my results. I'm happy with my lenses for the moment, and I won't be modifying it, as it's a shared camera. I was just thinking about filters, intervalometers, that kind of thing.

Even more specifically, I'm more of a wide field astro photographer, not deep sky imager, and I live in suburban London too.

This is my Flickr account, please have a look to tell me how I can improve, and possibly understand what I need to buy for improvement.

Thank you!

The immediate things that spring to mind are memory cards and intervolometer, but with a Canon you should be able to download straight to your PC and control all settings through a PC so maybe an investment in more batteries or power supply would be best.

Personally I would worry too much about filters, but maybe you could add a nifty fifty if your into widefield stuff.

that was my thinking but I didn't know whether it was needed or whether there was software which you'll achieve the same end result?

There is plenty of software like DSLR Remote Pro or GBTimelapse or the astro products APT and ByEOS but they would require a laptop, which would require a decent battery source for a decent imaging run. The intervalometer will go all night for months without a battery change but the lens and camera battery wouldn't survive more than a few hours before the camera battery dies or the lens dews up
