Galaxies and Nebula far enough away for a 180/2700 Maksutov.

Planetary nebula are often small in angular diameter - M57 is really not very big at all for example. There a loads of small galaxies around which should fit into the FoV of even an F/15 mak-cassegrain.

My mak has a 4000mm focal length, so even more extreme than the 180.

It is very good on globular clusters, resolving M13 pretty much to the core under good conditions. Planetary nebulae such as M57, and M27, the Blue Snowball all look great.

In terms of galaxies, M81/82 are small enough to observe, even M51 is manageable under dark skies.

M42 looks surprisingly good too, the Trapezium shows up beautifully and it fits a surprising amount of the nebula in showing lovely detail.

I use a variety of ep's as in my signature. The 18mm BGO is very good, and I also use a 25mm XCEL-LX for lower mag, although I hanker after a 24mm Panoptic.

Hope that is of some use.

Stu
