Hi and welcome to the forum. There's no rush to get a scope as the stars aren't going anywhere and this will afford you the time to get the scope that best meets your expectations of what you want to observe. If you haven't made your choice yet, I would say that dobsonian scopes offer best value for money where aperture (size of the mirror at the bottom of the scope's tube) is concerned. Aperture is another word for light gathering and where there's more light, then there is a better means to convey more detail. Different designs of scope have advantages and disadvantages and their existence allows you to perform different tasks be it in what you observe of whether you intend to image with the scope.

In anticipation of your scope, you might want to download a free program called "Stellarium" which you can read about here. Lots of great features to help you learn the night sky and it can be configured to your exact location in order that you can view an identical sky to the one you can see from your viewing site. There are other great features to play with including an advance date/time function that can help you take a look later on to see what will be coming and at what time - particularly useful if you view is obstructed in some way e.g surrounding house and trees. It will certainly help you to learn the night sky and where some of the great objects are as well as helping you to identify what you're looking at.

Clear skies for now and enjoy the forum

James
