But NASA found water on Mars years ago, so I don't get it.

It does suggest that Mercury does not have much polar wander, as if the poles moved around to any extent, the ice would have been burned away millions of years ago.

It's just poking fun at the recent discoveries, thats all :)

But having ice on mercury, that's amazing. As you say it has to lie pretty still in its orbit otherwise it would have been gone in an instant.
