Control cables blocking each other

I'm sure this is one of those things that's easy once you know the answer, but it's driving me a little nuts. What do you do when you can't point the scope at the object you're aiming at because either a) the RA and DEC cables are hitting each other, or one of the legs of the tripod is blocking the scope from moving?

I've got a Skywatcher Evostar 90 on an EQ2 mount. I feel like there must be a solution, but whatever it is I'm missing it.

I found it hard to get my head around EQ mounts for a long time, and actually still prefer Alt Az because of the simpicity.

Looks like I have. I'm going to have to read that link closely and try it out in real life a few times to work it out. Many thanks, Helen!
