first m42 i think

This is m42 right? I think it is in orions leg its buetifuel! Im hooked now i have to get closer!

If the row of 3 (?) stars are Orions belt then at the size and seperation of them M42 is a lot further down then anything on the image that I can see. It all depends on the band of blue stars displayed.

Basically not sure what I am looking at, before any chance of an answer.

Well done, that is indeed M42 in the centre with NGC1977 (The Running Man) to the left and the bright star Nair Al Saif (mag. +2.75) to the right. As you say, a beautiful sight but just wait till you get closer in!

I suspect you could get more out of what you have. If you use Photoshop give it a stretch in Curves to see what's there in the data.

Well done, and congratulations on your capture. It is always nice to know a few details about the image when you are posting. I always try to include things like, what equipment i have used (mount, scope, camera), what data you managed to get (number of subs(individule photos) length of subs and the camera settings (ISO if using a DSLR)) and also what programs you used to process the image (DSS (deep sky stacker) Photoshop). Its also interesting to know what the conditions were like on the night.
