Dull object burning up?

Just as I was setting up tonight, maybe just before 9pm, I noticed out of the corner of my eye something a dull red colour streaking across the sky South East to North West, it went quite a long way across the sky and seemed to be rather large too. It disappeared before it reached the horizon so I assume that whatever it was it ceased burning up, either it was no more or entered the atmosphere.

Anyone else see this tonight? Wonder what it was...

Sounds like a Chinese lantern to me.
