QHY5, CG-5 GT mount, PHD

Will this combo work together? I have read that PHD works with the HEQ5 but what about the CG-5. Just thinking about future inexpensive guiding for my setup.

PHD works perfectly well with a CG5GT, subject to the usual set up parameters, i.e., balance and PA.

Good to know that as I have just taken delivery of the QHY5 and although the main mount will be the NEQ6 I will be using it on the secondary CG5GT .

Yes that does sound good, and shouldn't work out too costly. How does the Qhy5 connect to the ED80. Will I need an adapter?

The QHY5 come with an 1.25 adapter attached already, I say that and I have not even tried it yet but it does look like one .

Using this very setup for guiding my DSLR.

I'm still very new at this AP lark, but the combo is a good "budget" solution to guiding.

The only problem I have had so far was getting PHD to recognise the QHY5. You have to follow specific driver loads.

Once that was done though, the guiding works well. Nice and easy for a beginner like myself.

PS the QYH5 needed a diagonal in place to get focus.

Just mounted mine on the ST80 with diagonal and all cables in, software installed and PHD does not show QYH5 so using ASCOM (Late) for the moment. Just turned on the Looping and it does not appear to be right so may have to look at another driver , anyone with a suggestion please? FIXED!!!!

Why does it need the diagona?

The diagonal give that extra bit to achieve focus, the cams directly to the OTA will not get to focus, I am talking about the ST80 here.

Will just have to wait for clear skies to see any results

Hi Yep, pic was taken before I realised that I needed a diagonal (or extension tube) to obtain focus.

I ppent an hour on the first night out with the setup trying to focus and calibrate PHD to hot pixels on the camera :-)

Popped in a diagonal, and low and behold real stars appeared.

Can i just ask what size extension tube would be needed for ST80 + Qhy5 and would a 2" one work.

I would like to know if Meade LX200 scope can be controlled by laptop. If so, how? any information would be much welcomed. My EQ scope was used by laptop and stellariumscope. That was superb. How can I get something similar with the LX200 please!
