nexstar + Quick answer wanted

Trying out my new CG5 GT with the Nexstar goto system.

After you have chosen your target and the mount has located it, does the sidereal tracking start automatically, or do I have to give an instruction.

Should be auto , it is on the 4se. In the settings menu it gives the option of sidereal , lunar or planetary ... I think!

Sidereal is the default

I set it at sidereal, but its so damned quiet you can't tell if its working.

Erm ... Is it following the stars ? Gives it away !

It should pick the right tracking rate dependent on the target you choose in the menu. moon sun or stars

Oh PS it is very quiet when tracking. Hold your ear to the mount and you should hear the motors murmering

Had My first hiccup!

After my first batch of subs, I turned the power off. I powered on again half an hour later and moved it manually back to the starting point to try and get a more accurate setup but it would not get near anything I sent it too. I started from scratch by visually checking PA, then ran the 2 star align prog. It could not get close to anything.

Is there something I should have done before turning it off. It was still pointing at M31 when I tuned it off.

I had changed the month to 10 instead of 09. Well at least I know where stars will be in a months time.
