Should both my axis be at Zero when polar aligning. using celestron eq mount.

Yes they both should be at zero. You can mark the position on your mount with a fine marker if the disks with dials move freely.

Hi, I always use the home position too. But hand on heart I am not sure why this is required and what it does. After all on my heq5 mount DEC axis has to be turned 90 degrees to see Polaris anyway. I them put to home and align because that's what folks say you should do.

Parking the scope to "home" (polar aligned) lets the mount knows where it is and where to start from in it's virtual tour.

I don't know why, but it certainly works!!!
