What kind of filter do I need?

Hi there,

I have a DMK21AU04.AS mono camera which I wanted to start using for planetary imaging & I was wondering which filter I would need. I already have a IR pass filter but I was wondered if a IR/UV cut filter would be better?

Any advice is appreciated.

For a mono camera you can do lunar imaging with the IR/UV cut filter. A set of R, G, and B colour filters (in a wheel) are necessary for colour imaging of planets. Some use the IR pass filter to create a luminance channel (IR is less affected by seeing).

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the advice. At the moment I'm not using any colour filters & I'm just using the mono camera on its own so which of the 2 filters would be best just now until I buy a filter wheel & RGB filters?

The IR pass filter can give stunning images on Jupiter, the IR/UV cut filter will seem more natural. I would simply experiment.
