'Cheshire Cat' asterism

MAN or ASTROMAN

Recommended Posts

I recently watched clips on the BBC 'Sky at night' website of the 'Moore Marathon' from April this year. Object no 28 was the above named asterism, which I found quite intriguing. I'd already got a link to a handy chart (website-''NYC Nova hunter),so I set out to bag this cosmic beast! Using 15x70 binos,it was quit easy to find in Auriga, and once found it's very easy to find again. The enigmatic smiley face almost filled the view, and I found myself going back to it several times with a self satified chuckle! It really is a charming and amusing sight- I imagine that children would appreciate it (but then,I'm just a big kid myself!).As a bonus,I got to see M36 too! Has anyone else got any favourite asterisms? I've been advised that 'The Christmas Tree' is a good one.
