Right up the Elephant's Trunk (VDB 142)

Tonight I was struggling with my choice of widefield image because of the water vapour in the air so I swapped over to my 10" Reflector and took a series of 17 X 300 second images zeroed in on vDB142 which to my mind is the most interesting part of IC1396 which includes the Elephant Trunk Nebula. I used my Starlight Xpress SXVF-H9C camera and processed the results in MaximDL and PhotoShop.

That is a stunning image! Oh to be able to take 300s images...

Trev

Hi Trev, being able to autoguide transformed my imaging pleasure by allowing me to take longer exposures and the addition of a good light pollution filter has increased the time before LP fogging spoils the party! Sadly, for these low brightness objects, long exposures become very important.
