I watched the Sky At Night last might and the brief interview with Neil Armstrong in which he said that you can't see any stars from the moon, only the Earth and the Sun. Can anyone explain why this is

Imagine that someone is pointing a powerful light towards your face (as it would be the sun in daylight on the moon, without any atmosphere) and think how many stars would you be able to see with such a powerful shine.
