mounting camera on EQ5?

Recommended Posts

I've mounted a DSLR using a short dovetail and 1/4" UNC screw to fix the camera to it, but it can make framing awkward because the mount won't always allow movement in the direction you want to get the camera oriented the way you want. I now have a ball head that is screwed to the dovetail and the camera fits to the ball head. When the clouds lift I shall give it a try.

This is the ball head I have:

(first example I found from google). It attaches with a 3/8" UNC thread though, as opposed to the 1/4" UNC on the camera (the camera end does have the correct fitting though).

I have used a piece of astroboot dovetail bar. 1/4" screw through to the camera. Then drilled the dovetail for a finder base. A nice RACI finder fitted alongside the DSLR. no kneeling and squinting through the viewfinder. All mountable in seconds. Done for minimal money.
