its a pier , you put your mount on top for a fixed setup more stable than tripod ,

Nice work wil a spanner fit and turn bottom nuts? may be worth welding bottom nuts welding or use lock nuts 1/2 way up stud then bottom free nut used to lock!

I know too many nuts spoil the job, nice to see some one else building with scrap do you have a source of steel? need a few peices to try making some mirror blanks will explain more! if asked or when we meet. Bob

Hi Bob ,yes setup template and cut down spanner for bottom nuts , the nuts are s/steel and cut down to half nuts so a ring spanner will fit as well

best thing i ever did was to make an observatory!! you do so much more observing!! and its out of the wind! looks like a tidy pier you can never over engineer them the more solid the better, stuy

it's that adaptor plate to fit my heq 5 to pier ,to buy one costs 79 quid that cost a lot less and a bit of time and I still got enoughmaterial to make 5 more
