Aperture mask

The Warthog

Recommended Posts

This is a picture of an aperture mask I made one day while I was waiting for the vegetables to come to a boil:

The circle fits the outside diameter of the OTA. I keep an elastic around the top of the tube, and when I put on the aperture mask, I tuck the tabs under the elastic, to hold it in place.

Later this winter, when I have time, I'm going to make one with two holes opposite each other. This will be a Hartmann mask, and will be a focusing aid.

If I can find it again, I'll post the solar projection screen I made from the corner of a cardboard box. I think my wife may have thrown it out, though.

When you make the Hartman mask try making it using 2 triangles cut out

instead of 2 circles this is supposed to be better and more accurate.

I've seen those but I'm too much of a klutz to cut good triangles quickly. I'd probably have to wait until I was cooking a roast.
