Types of eyepiece

My scope came with a 25mm and 10mm super plossl. I have seen a lot of different designs mentioned (plossl, orthoscopic, planetary...) - I know the difference lies somewhere in the optical design and construction, but what type is good for what?

Thanks

Trev,

Here is a link to a web page that gives a good general intro to eyepiece types:

Here's another good reference on eyepieces: http://www.quadibloc.com/science/opt04.htm . I had Kellners before I had Plossls, the Kellners were indistinguishable in performance from the Plossls except in field of view, and much, much better than the Huygens and Ramsden eps the scope came with. I have had Plossls and Super Plossls, and they appear to be the same.

Plossls are good all-rounders. I have moved up to Celestron X-Cels, and now to Antares Speers-WALERS with an 82 degree field of vision, and am very happy with these.

Some eyepieces are better suited to short focal length OTAs. It's a good idea to ask, if you are spending a lot of money on an ep.
