Lunar occultation

I came pretty close to seeing it - closer than expected with the recent weather! Was stomping through Leicester at 4 am this morning after a night at Redeemer and there, ina totally clear sky, was the moon, with Jupiter sitting right on top of it and Venus pointing at the conjunction from below.

It was a beautiful sight - i had to stop (and make my friends stop) and admire it for a moment - really topped off an excellent night.

I was looking forward to this after reading about it in last months S@N but then when it was cloudy I knew I wasn't going to be seeing it.

I'm hoping I can see the moon occult a star at some point, presumably only really visible with the unlit edge.

I didn't know about the lunar occultation until Saturday night. I had been in the north of Scotland for a week without any break in the clouds, so when I got home to Edinburgh and realised I could see stars again I went out, set up scope and snapped this picture with my phone.
