I suggest you buy two books.

First one. Turn left at Orion. A brilliant book to navigate the stars, dso's and other lovelies in an informal and practical manner.

Second one. Making Every Photon Count. This book is "My Bible" on starting on the road to Astrophotograhy. Steve, the author, is a member of this site and

his book goes through all aspects of Astrophotograhy. From equipment, capturing data, processing, software and much, much more.
