Not on Exmoor but I remember SGL1 and 2 and possibly 3 when it was so bad people slept in their cars!!!.. I had a caravan at the time..

Greg

It's absolutely tipping down here in Somerset at the moment so good luck for tonight Greg and see you tomorrow!

I'm seriously considering sleeping in my car because I don't want the hassle of dealing with a wet tent when I get home.

I'm sat here in my Caravan at Highbridge, listening to the "pitter patter" of rain "drops" on the roof.

I was tempted to wait and come up tomorrow instead, but the weather forecast from 0000 to 0500 actually looks quite promising tonight.

So I'll head off for some food and beer in a bit.

I'll then get on the exmoor ferry service at Taunton and set sail for Halse Farm. I knew I forgot to pack something, a life jacket

BBC weather shows lightening at 16:00

Greg,

Save me a mooring berth please :p

Cheers,

Grahame.

I'm not going to make it, unfortunately. One small crises after another has prevented me from being able to get the van packed plus the storage field it's in is now inundated and a mud bath

Sorry folks - hope those that make it have a good one, whatever the weather throws up.

James is en-route Greg, I shall be travelling up tomorrow. I'll text you when close so you can put the kettle on :coffee2:

Star Partys in the UK are often wet so it is best to view them as social events, then if the sky clears it is a bonus. And if they do clear between showers the air is clean so transparency is excellent.

I remember it rained heavily for much of SGL1 and SGL2 (both in Wales!) but we had a great time and stories from both events are often told and retold. Interestingly Jamie is usually at the centre of them.....

I was just watching the news reports about the floods in Clovelly, which is not a huge amount further down towards Cornwall. Quite shocking :(

James

There was an awful lot of water just north of Okehampton as well , i had to turn my van around a couple of times due to flash flooding

Well, we're still here and haven't been washed away. We got about an hour of clearish skies last night and are hoping for more tonight. Last nights brief glimpse did show us just how seriously dark it is here :)

Currently sitting in the Royal Oak in Winsford with Greg, Sam, JonH and Kevin drinking Highland Park and awaiting lunch :)

I was wondering if you managed to see anything last night as I wove my way home from skittles at the cricket club (where else? :) under relatively clear skies. The forecast for tonight looks moderately promising. I'll believe it when we get there though, given the weather so far. At least you should have some nice photos of rainbows :)

I've just been outside and even just outside the door with all the house lights on and eyes not adjusted to the dark I can see the Milky Way, so hopefully there'll be some decent viewing tonight.

Hi Guys, I hope you had (or still having) a clear night last night. Woke early this morning and been standing out in the garden just a few miles SW of you and its glorious. First time I've seen the central star group in the Rosette as a naked eye patch! not to mention M36 & 38...

Lots of meteors as well, one very slow and bright which seemed to wobble slightly just before breaking up near M44.

I really hope you all had the same conditions.

I think they should have done. Conditions were near-perfect here as well for most of last night. At one point I was imaging Jupiter with the Mak and even at about f/35 it was so steady on the camera sensor. I can't recall the last time the conditions were that good. I don't envy those camping though. It was very cold. We even had a frost this morning which is astonishingly early in the year for here, at least by recent standards.

Just got settled down at home after an amazing night. Wow! That was my first star party but definitely not my last. Absolutely Awesome. And what a great bunch of people you all were, lovely to meet you all. Hats off to Gregg for arranging it all. Thanks!

Dave.

Well .... A big thank you to all that turned up, after the weather Thursday and Friday night last night was absolutely spectacular!

I'll post up my pics in a bit after a bath, van tidy, errrr tent wash!!!! And family cuddle.

The bad weather on the Thursday and Friday did us all a huge favour as we all had to shelter in James tent and socialise and get to know one and other, a big thank you to James for the use of his tent...
