Stargazing_Cliff
Hi PeepsRadio astronomy seems an interesting subject to complement the optical spectrum side, just booked my place at the BAA Radio astro meeting in Leicester next month. Any pointers/web sites to start with please?.CheersSteveYes quite interesting subject i know i'm not going to be as good them seti dudes with them massive satelite dishes maybe one day i know need some kind of ssb/usb radio receiever to do the proper radio astronomybut a normal radio of any kind can do meteor fm scatter with computer software like speclab.i seem to like them normal multi band radio scanner's lately listening to them planes maybe space planes soon :)/ weather repeater'sI only at moment have m8 moonraker analog tuning which has quite few multibands frequency's on it to listen to. CB 80 Channels 26 - 28 VHF Low Band 54 - 87 FM Broadcast 88 - 108 Air Band 108 - 136 VHF High Band 145 - 176 and a m10 digital moonraker which i'll have in week or 2 time when it's me birthday 18th october which has some different frequency's to listen to like marine band listen for boats morse code .i had test of it early on and it did pick up some kind morse coding which i be able to decode with pldigi software. Frequency Coverage FM Broadcast 87.3 - 108MHz 25KHz Step Air Band 110- 140MHz 25KHz Step AM Broadcast 520 - 1720KHz Marine Band 57 Channel What i do need for me little radio scanner's is some kind of outdoor antenna making maybe dipole out of copper pipes. or connect them to the massive long wire have in garden as washing line hehe. Gasman
Cheers CliffI had a bit of a dabble in amateur radio a few years back and also managed to get some dodgy images from weather sats even studied half way through course to get me license, Do they still need the cw element to get licensed? Apparently they are demoing the funcube dongle and its use in radio astro at this meeting so should be interesting.BestSteve
