You've got it in the wrong place cliff, put it on air and leave the dial where it is, this is what a meteor looks like on the display

bign.jpg

borrowed from gepetto on astro chat.

Ah right i get ya now put it on Air :)

Will do think on air where it is now on air is the computer coded type sound i'll tune above that sound where it's hiss or maybe below the computer type sound.

Hi Peeps

Radio astronomy seems an interesting subject to complement the optical spectrum side, just booked my place at the BAA Radio astro meeting in Leicester next month. Any pointers/web sites to start with please?.

Cheers

Steve

Yes quite interesting subject i know i'm not going to be as good them seti dudes with them massive satelite dishes maybe one day ;)

i know need some kind of ssb/usb radio receiever to do the proper radio astronomy

but a normal radio of any kind can do meteor fm scatter with computer software like speclab.

i seem to like them normal multi band radio scanner's lately listening to them planes maybe space planes soon :)/ weather repeater's

I only at moment have m8 moonraker analog tuning which has quite few multibands frequency's on it to listen to.

CB 80 Channels 26 - 28 VHF Low Band 54 - 87 FM Broadcast 88 - 108 Air Band 108 - 136 VHF High Band 145 - 176

and a m10 digital moonraker which i'll have in week or 2 time when it's me birthday 18th october which has some different frequency's to listen to like marine band listen for boats morse code :).

i had test of it early on and it did pick up some kind morse coding which i be able to decode with pldigi software.

Frequency Coverage FM Broadcast 87.3 - 108MHz 25KHz Step Air Band 110- 140MHz 25KHz Step AM Broadcast 520 - 1720KHz Marine Band 57 Channel

What i do need for me little radio scanner's is some kind of outdoor antenna making maybe dipole out of copper pipes. or connect them to the massive long wire have in garden as washing line hehe.

Cheers Cliff

I had a bit of a dabble in amateur radio a few years back and also managed to get some dodgy images from weather sats even studied half way through course to get me license, Do they still need the cw element to get licensed? Apparently they are demoing the funcube dongle and its use in radio astro at this meeting so should be interesting.

Best

Steve

Latest update got me antenna now thanks to SOS Tim from SPAM Solar Planetary And Meteor Detection made me the antenna lookes well made and tuned to air/marine bands so they help me radio scanners :) maybe do bit normal fm meteor scatter with them sometime.

got antenna made just for swap for modded webcam i made to infrared just normal skycam like me fireball cam that i captured that meteor from 21st september 2012

285721_10151259298477288_349961123_n.jpg

I just need to get some rg 58 coax cable now and connect to me scanner.

could do with pre-amp for it if anyones got one spare dont mind sending me also could do with ssb/usb radio will have to get sometime :)

i'd do some webcam modding if like cam making sometime.

for now got antenna and me 2 hand held scanners do for now.

sorry to hear your m10 broke is that the new one you got for your birthday?

yep managed to fix it so display and bleep works but cant seem to get no sound from it.

must be some wire lose or i've blown sound on it some how.

didnt pick out up hardly not as good as m8 analog tuner

the m8 has all frequency's on it more than m10 i'll fix sound one day.

anyways for now i'm working on setting up a classic CB rig see if anyones on old airwaves i used to well into cb's back in 80/90s just needs proper cb antenna.

i'm also working on me computer radio the newsky sdr radio just needs pre-amp for j-pole antenna then i can try do some meteor detections and see what else can pick up on sdrsharpe software

some dude will build me extra bit to go on me antenna help pick up Graves.

i can tune to 143mhz on it usb listen to space.

as at moment the j-pole is tuned to 128mhz

i took this other day just look below middlesbrough at 14:14 mark i'm sure that looks like orion stars showing as red dots ;)

just have to get pre-amp mite pick up meteors, moon bounce & Spaceships.320315_10151278625947288_285097881_n.jpg

Yes heard me first air plane talking on the sdr radio since i added a SLX1P signal booster to it and working awesome as heard some plane talking on am mode also on fm mode lots radio stations can pick up now. now for usb and 143 here i come ;) if any meteors come past like that is lol

Signal booster frequency

has frequency range from 47 - 862 Mhz

gain 20db

noise figure <= 5db

output level max 100dbuv

variable gain 10db

Works anyways cheap for 11.99p
