A Very Different Transit

Hi all. Following my club's (Castle Point Astronomy Club) failed attempt to view the Venus transit, I thought that last evenings meeting for a ' Transit Debrief ' would be a sad affair. It was not, bits of it were quite hilarious. The funniest bit was this -

One of our senior members (in his 70s) was determined to see the transit if he could. He set his alarm for a very unearthly hour. In his car, he used his sat-nav which guided him unerringly to our observing location. He was surprised to be first there. His anticipation rose as the sky looked clear low in the north east.

The sun rose. Using his solar filter, he could not make out Venus on the solar disc. He was puzzled that none of us had joined him.

The truth dawned. Wrong day

He was there on Tuesday morning. Feeling silly, he went home.

I think most of us would have kept quiet about that, fortunately for us, he did not.

Regards, Ed.
