Not quite an astronomy term but I am looking forward to discovering how to pronounce Nik Szymanek (he'll be our neighbor at the SW Astro Fair this weekend).

Its pronounced 'Sha mon ek'.

Assuming the spelling is reasonably accurate, the greek dipthong ei is pronounced like the ei in weight so I reckon the first syllable would be said as "play". The vowel a in greek (when not in a dipthong) is like the a in "father" so I reckon pleiades would be pronounced as Play-ar-des (with the last syllable sounding almost like dears).

That's the problem with trying to nail these pronunciations as there is so many variations of how we pronounce vowels across the english speaking world.
