Break In at the Astronomy Centre Todmorden

Break in at the Astronomy Centre Todmorden

There has been a break in at the Astronomy Centre Todmorden, Unfortunately a lot of kit has been stolen. A full inventory will follow. This is a public outreach facility and is Peter Drew's life work. This is a big blow for the club.

The Astronomy Centre

Please be on the look out for new adds for Coronado scopes and Solar scopes that have been modified. Large refracting binoculars and large reflecting binoculars in particular. Please pass the word and inform the police and the Astronomy Centre if you have your suspicions.

If you can help by putting up warnings on any of the Astronomy forums,

that will be appreciated.

Thank you,

David

Like everyone here, very sorry to hear about this, especially as so much good work has been done in helping to promote astronomy with the help of generous equipment donations made by Peter. Will await full details of equipment to help all of us monitor the situation and to help return this kit back to where it belongs so that the good work may continue.

James

Must be heartbreaking Peter and I can only admire your continued commitment to the centre.

Let us all keep our eyes and ears open and endeavour to return this equipment to it's rightful home.

Shocking news, looking at that provisional list there is a lot of pretty specialised equipment there, and hopefully easy to spot if being sold, fingers crossed for a succesful recovery of your equipment

I just can't comprehend why people would target an observatory of all places? I mean, surely there are plenty of places with higher value goods, this is just targeting peoples' hobbies and enjoyment, now that's low.

Terrible news!

Local papers, auction listing websites, astonomy sale websites and any other online sales sites will potentially be used. If you hear nothing in the next few weeks, ask the police to consider a press release. Astro equipment is a rare thing to steal and will need to be shifted somewhere.

Also, to everyone else, consider UV marking your stock. Get a UV pen and write your postcode and address/business premises number somewhere on the underside of the scope where it can be checked easily but will not be wiped off accidentally.

Good luck and I do hope at least some of your equipment turns up, if not all of it.

All the best!!

Scott.

I know people might not want to consider it, but it's entirely possible that it's an astronomer who stole the items.
