Help a newbie with a picture problem?

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

I recently took my first lunar shots with an Xbox webcam & Sharpcap. I haven't removed the IR filter & the sharpcap settings were set to auto.

My question is what might cause the purple high lights. Is there something I should do to avoid it in the first place?

Processing in photoshop (RGB) saturation/lighten, seems to remove some of it.

your help much appriecated.

Chris

Hmmm, Whilst writing this I've also noticed some green in there as well.registacktest.bmp

What scope was used to take the image?

Did the webcam have a lens in the path?

Could be CA.

Could be the prism effect of the atmosphere if the moon was lowish.

Not sure if poor collimation on a reflector would give rise to similar.

I used an 8" flextube, 1200mm focal length.

The lense was removed from the webcam, the IR filter left in place & a webcam adaptor fitted.

I collimated the secondary & primary with a baader mk3.

Looking back on stellarium the moon was around 20 to 15 degrees above the horizon, in this case the south downs.

I've wondered about ca. Could my scope suffer from that?

many thanks

Chris

It shouldn't really. It's the same scope as mine and I don't use an IR filter normally but I fitted one I had lying around for the first time the other night and got some strange colour differences on Mars so it maybe worth taking it off and trying it as I'm not sure of the quality of the IR filter built into the cam.

Thats interesting, I might remove the built in Ir then.

I have a protective screw cap for the camera adaptor. Do you have a clear lens or filter in place to protect the sensor?

My barlow is a 2x Tal.

I really do appreciate the help.
