EQ3-2 question

Recommended Posts

I have searched t'internet for the load carrying capacity of the EQ3-2 mount, can any off you provide the answer.

Just need to know how much I can hang off it whilst I get the funds together for a more substantial mount.

I don't know if there is a "published" maximum but from my experience I would say about a 10lb OTA would be about the max depending on the length of the tube. My EQ3-2 has the 1.5 inch tubular steel legs which makes it more stable - it handled a 120mmF8.3 Skywatcher refractor quite comfortably for visual use.

Hope that helps a bit.

My Helios 8" used to sit on the EQ3, it was OK visually but not to hot on the imaging side..

I now use it with the ED80 as a grab and go set up and the 120mm frac sits on it ok... :D

I have been using it with a 120ST visually no problem, just wondered what I could load it with? Know the tripod isn't up to much, but on a piller?

The official max weight is 6Kg for aluminium tripod version. Pretty sure the newer Celestron XLT EQ3 with it's steel tripod can carry a tad more.

I used mine with an ED100 and had no probs at all for visual use. A good little mount. Imaging wise it would make a good portable and steady camera platform for a DSLR and lens for widefield imaging.
