Andrew*
I wondered if anyone had any experience of this DSLR.I'm considering buying particularly this one because of its compatability with my Minolta lenses, but I wondered if anyone's used it for astrophotography or otherwise. It has this system, which might have an interesting effect for our favourite dim objects. Since it's not designed for them, it might make a mess of it or on the other hand it might be ideal to get the best detail out of high contrast objects:Dynamic Range OptimizerTo recover details in dark or bright areas of the picture, the Sony ? (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera provides two levels of Dynamic Range Optimization: Normal DRO, to improve shadow detail using standard gamma curves for fast shot-to-shot response time, or Advanced DRO, to adjust dynamic range area-by-area for the greatest precision.ThanksAndrew

beamish
A good friend of mine has one ( the 10.1 MP?), he's a professional camera-man by trade and loves it, you can guess he has a few cameras to boot to choose from !! If you happen to be up at Kielder(10th, 11ht or 12th, he'll be there with it. I've seen the pictures he's taken with it(non-astro) and I was well impressed with the resolution and clarity of image. I think he said it takes a Minolta fit re lenses. looks okay too. BUT I do know that if you're planning to use it with K3ccdtools you'll come a cropper! the s/w can't communicate with it.Karlo
russ
I owned it's forerunner, the Minolta 5D. Great camera to use for daytime stuff, much nicer than the Canon 350D. But amp glow was a real problem for astro images. At 1600iso there was a huge bright glow in the top left corner of the image. Even at low ISO settings the amp was present even on shortish exposures. There's no getting away from the fact the Canon's work best for astro use. Not sure how the new Olympus E410 and E510 work with their CMOS sensors. Russ
