best lubricant on focuser (drain pipe design)

just wondering what the best lubricant on a drain pipe type focuser is, i was thinking of vasalene but not too sure

Sorry what do you mean by drain pipe type focuser? do you mean R&P, crayford or drawtube? You can use lithium grease on the first type.

The old coulter scopes were made of every day stuff so the focuses is a metal pipe that goes in and out. I guess draw tube sort of

I use vaseline cos it was all I had to hand. It isn't very good. It disappears quickly and doesn't really stay in place!

Not sure what a drain pipe focuser is, but I replaced the Synta Chinese grease on my rack and pinion with T2 lithium grease, which is much better, and focuser is a lot smoother!

It basacally moves in and out and is just a tube. Nothing fancy like a modern focuser

I think wax may be a good idea. For a start, it won't stick to fingers.

I would personally use Molybdenum grease.

It is a very fine grease used for ABS/brass gearing systems.

But only smear a very thin coating on.

Vaseline will nearly turn to liquid if it gets warm, and it will go really thick outside in icy weather. Lithium grease or silicon grease is much better.
