OK sticking to 1mw but does the output wavelength make any difference ?

1mW Lasers are the only legal lasers in the UK for pointer use...you will find more powerful ones but you really don't need them, I use a 1mW one and find it to be more than ample.

I've not compared the two so I can only go on the 1mw laser which to be honest is bright enough in my opinion.

I have 1mw i use for polar alignment, and a 5mw as a finderscope.

By using these two my stargazing has been much better, alignment is much better which means very good tracking, and as for using one as a finder, the best thing i have done, even my 11 year old was going from star to star the weekend with ease, no back breaking, just stand next to scope and move.

As for batteries, yes they hate the cold and will only last for a few mins, so what i do is wrap them in reusable hand warmers, last all night now.

Just use common sense with aircraft etc, when you see one in the part of sky you wish to go switch off and wait, thats all i do and no knock on the door yet
