M42 - 04/03/2012

First proper go of doing an automated imaging run using APT and Canon DSLR attached to recently replaced 80ED atop a NEQ6.

15 x 1 minute ISO1600 subs (for faint nebula) + 15 x 1 minute ISO400 subs (for core). Both sets of subs stacked in DSS then combined in Photoshop.

Turned out better than I thought it would with the moon being so close.

P.s. should have added this was shot with the dedicated Skywatcher focal reducer/flattener, which is x0.85 hence the wider shot.

Lovely wide shot will be better with the moon out of the way did you take darks and flats as well they allways help. nice one

No QM, no darks/flats/bias. Didn't think it would be worth it as I assumed (incorrectly) that it would be a bit washed out due to the moon.

As it turned out, it wasn't at all bad.

Next time I'll do it properly.

The moon lit nights dont gel well for dso's but darks flats and bias allways help there a pain to do but worth it. Lets hope we get some clear skys soon.
