Lunar "petrographic" images - with raw frames

Recommended Posts

More petrographic Moon images. This time whole Moon globe with TSAPO65Q and Atik 314L+ (09.02.2012). Getting colors close to those described in the sources is quite tricky but it seems to work more or less (the filters aren't exactly on the same bands as those from papers). I'll try post a short analysis later - and compare it with something to check if the colors are "correct" :D

And that's not all... Looking at the colors and reference for those type of images...

Maturation ratio says (probably!):

- Tycho and it ejecta blue due to being fresh

- Dark blue area by Copernicus - basalts low in titanium (?)

- old highland areas are red or orange

- mares rich in Ti - ligh blue

- magma rocks rich in Fe - yellow (also newer maria regolith may be yellow)

Mafic ratio says (although low on colors):

- purple (should be reddish rather) - pyroxene low in Ca (orthopyroxene, norite)

- light green - olivines

This is quite interesting. The colours seemed to have turned out making sense with the legend you posted.
