Good luck out tonight, only just finished working... Might retire and try early doors as it is supposed to be clear.

Hope the man flu goes quick Rich, and Damian good luck with handset cable doesn't sound healthy. I have a spare cable at home that has the same connections you can have it next time we meet up, not sure if it will work but worth a try. :-)

They use RJ45 connectors the same as network patch cables soupy.

I've a few and have one on the mount as a replacement.I also have the serial cable too.

Yep it is a network patch cable Damian. If you got one already, excellent.

Got up earlier but the east horizon was particularly cloudy so went back to bed got up half an hour ago and it had cleared but too late for any observing :-(

How you getting on Kieran

Was up at 2:30am and packed up at 4am,masses of dew.secondary, finder and eyepieces ok as I have dew strips but with such a big aperture dew just falls down the tube onto the primary so need to engineer a solution, maybe a fan blowing accross the tube as a dew shield isn't really an option

I had a rubbish session last night.

Waited for the moon to dip down but by that time everything had dewed up.

I spent half an hour trying to clear it then the light pollution just drowned everything out hitting what must've been high hazy cloud or just pollution?

Felt too tired to do anything so packed up and hit the eider.

Managed just a couple of NGC's and the GRS on Jupiter rather poor night. Ordered more dew control and gonna make up a complete box.

Managed to get out with the EQ6 for the first time last night, managed the set up ok.

Although switching on my netbook I was horrified to see that I've somehow cracked the screen! :( Some of it was visible and I decided to take images of the Moon and Jupiter, then tried and failed to spot Uranus before packing up.

A neighbour came out walking the dog and she was amazed when I dropped an eyepiece in and showed her the Moon.

Checked on ebay and a replacement netbook screen is around £30, which I should be able to fit myself, so not as bad as I initially thought.

Anyone have any experience making dew heater bands? Just had a look online for pre-made ones and my lord they're certainly not cheap. So I've had a look at DIY ones and they seem fairly straight forward to make but I just want to know if that will be the case with my level of skill, ie. non existent. :D

I'm just getting the components together for a DIY dew controller:

http://www.blackwaterskies.co.uk/2013/05/a-cheap-multi-channel-dew-heater.html

Then I'd be in the same situation, the actual heater bands are expensive, but there's a possibility to make your own:

I might ask Santa for some commercial heater bands for Christmas :)

Exactly what I use guys and then a few resistors and a little XL spread sheet to work out the size of the lens and how many you need to keep your stuff dew free.

A soldering iron, wire, phono plugs and sockets, fuses and fuse holders and a box to put it all in.Doesn't look pretty but it works a treat for less than £10 for a couple

I've got to tidy mine up and so will post a few pics when it's sorted.

I'll post a link when I find it for the resistor calculator
