Astro Limericks, anyone?

An imager's wife from Dundee

Said 'The photons you capture are free

So why all this spending

On kit never ending?

Your pictures are bankrupting me!'

Or

My hubby has just bought a Dob

And carried it out: quite a job!

After bending and craning

And searching and straining

He located... a faint fuzzy blob!

Until he observed an unfiltered Sun.

My new scopes arrived in the post.

Of course darling I love you the most!

But the skies are all clear,

So go be a dear,

And make us some tea and some toast.

Now there's M1, M5 and M9,

Through an 8 inch they look just fine,

But try out a 4,

No way you'll get more,

Unless your sky's dark unlike mine.

Dark Skies

Jupiter's shining in the late summer sky,

An almost full Moon, emerges close by,

Vega glows blue in the darkness above,

The great Double Cluster is one we all love.

Andromeda's mistiness teases the eye,

A meteor darts across darkening skies,

The clouds fade away giving me hope,

It looks like it's time to set up the scope.

Warm jacket and boots, red torch at the ready,

Check your kit's cold, and tripod is steady,

With batteries charged, eyepieces looked out,

"Turn the damn lights off" I hear someone shout.

With these little thoughts, your hobby will grow,

And empty your pockets of any spare dough

Endless late nights, and stinging red eyes,

Stargazers never tire of watching Dark Skies.

To take out that light,

Get a gun and sight.

Andromeda's so far away

But we know that she's coming our way

Since Hubble the gifted

Said, Hell she's blueshifted

She'll be here in a year and a day!
