Thanks all for the welcome!

I'll definitely be picking some brains before making purchase decisions. I'm going with a friend to the next North Essex Astronomical Society outing in February, and may go to the planned lecture on the 15th so I hope to see some of you based near me, there.

Hi Smudgens

A warm welcome to the SGL,Both these scopes will be ok ,as you can see by my Signature I use a SCT made by Meade and love it as a visual observer this is scope does my well but if you are thinking that you will want to do astrophotography later

then you would be better off with a Newtonian scope a 150mm or 200mm would do great , ask again when you get closer to buy your scope and we will take you though it

PS you should also join a club I don't know where you are in Essex but the are a few near you I'm sure
