How many galaxies with an 80mm lens?

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity I pointed my camera in the general direction of the Coma Virgo galaxy cluster to see what an 80mm lens would pick up. With a 2 minute exposure I got 104 galaxies in one shot! I circled the galaxies in orange to aid the count- appologies in advance for the dust spot.

Insanely cool isn't it? :) Olly, I guess by "big" you mean no less than 20" eh?

he'd probably go for 30"++, thihi :)

nah, just kidding :D

but i must say, it's a really stunning image :D i looked a bit closer on the galaxies though, and it seems they're quite hard to get any details out of, even though they're clearly visable with just an 80mm lens.

i remember i wanted to give this spot a try as well, but the view was blocked at that time. will absolutely give it another go.

what lens and settings did you use, btw? just out of curiosity

No processing done on this image- I just wanted to see what could be captured.

It's really brilliant.

Did you have to go to a dark site to do it? How did you keep the original image nice and dark?

I end up with bright orange skies here :icon_salut:
