Hello, bluearthling. How're the skies in Crawley? Are they washed out by the glow from Gatwick? I'm about 15 miles away, across the other side of Lingfield, and last night the sky was lovely and dark, except for the glow from the airport to the west.

The skies here do obviously suffer some degree of light pollution from the airport. I used to work on the airfield lighting system and that was when I first started looking at the night sky, I could still see a fair bit, its only when I went to dark areas I realsied how much I couldn't see.

Been to a couple of great places for star gazing, best being fox glacier in New Zealand and the desert in Egypt.

If anyone knows of good places near Crawley, please let me know.
