Laser Collimator Collimating Stand

Here is a stand I made to collimate my laser collimator. It is made from a plastic coat hanger, cut up and glued with a hot glue gun. It works well and allows full rotation of the laser collimator.

I found the easiest thing to do was to use a lenth of wood (6-10 inches) and 4 off 6" nails. Place one pair of nails to form a cross and hammer them into the wood, do the same with the second set, albeit 3 - 4 inches further along from the 1st set or so that it accomodates the collimator.

Thats a pretty neat idea

But found it way easier to do what Ian suggested

I made this a couple of days ago

I added a nail at the front so I could keep it in the same place, I also made the wood longer at the back so I could clamp it to a table easily

Hi there - that is an excellent and simple design. Nice piece of work. The nail design is also great. I think I can just about manage that with my DIY skills!

Thanks for the comments and yes, the crossed nails is something I hadn't thought of - good idea. I know Steve Chambers uses plastic pipes and elbow fittings as he has a piccie in his book, Make Every Photon Count. Any other ideas? Lego was my first solution.

A couple of lengths of wood nailed to some plywood in my case. I had not realised that lots of other people had the same problem; I thought I was just unlucky with my purchase.

Very neat and within my limited DIY abilities but I must be using the wrong hot glue gun, my collimator collimator stayed white.
