Was hoping for a Seven Planet Night

Got off to a good start with Jupiter nicely showing its bands and all four moons. Venus was brilliant in a Gibbous phase (just like a third quarter Moon). Uranus was just about midway between Jupiter and Venus and showed up as a conspicous slightly greenish disc. The tiny disc of Neptune was about 2 degrees from Venus (above and to the left) No colour in Neptune though, just a bland grey.

So with Mars rising about midnight, Saturn up about 3.00 a.m. and just a slim chance of catching Mercury just before Sunrise it is theoretically possible to see all seven Planets in one night. Weather not looking too good now though.

Cloud did spoil it last night but will try for all seven again tonight. Just observed the 4 evening ones again - Jupiter with Io and Europa very close to each other, Gibbous Venus with Neptune straight above it and Uranus almost midway between Venus and Jupiter. Hope to get up about 5.00 a.m. to have a good look at Mars and Saturn then down the Road to the coast to try to catch Mercury rising over the North Sea.

I managed a 7 planet day on Christmas Eve.

Starting at 6 O'clock with Mars, then Saturn and Mercury in the morning, then Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and finally Neptune at about 17:00. All the planets in 11 hours in one calendar day.

A bit of fun, and it's a bit more do-able than having to stay up all night!
